Fit

BAK industries are popular for their low-profile design in tonneau covers. BAKFlip MX4 is also a low-profile cover. The cover doesn’t add any extra height to the truck bed as it fits inside the truck bed rails and also sits flush with the tailgate. In fully open position this tonneau cover will not cover your third brake light.

Installation

BAKFlip MX4 tonneau cover is quite easy to install. It neither requires a drill nor any professional tool. You will only need a wrench and socket to install the cover. All the other required hardware is included in the box. Though installing the tonneau cover doesn’t require any drill, you may have to use one to drill holes (if there aren’t any) in your truck bed for the drain tubes. Security

Access

This tri-fold tonneau cover folds in four different positions and in each position the cover is locked with the integrated latch system. Important Features

Despite being quite lightweight than other hard tonneau covers it can hold up to 400 lbs. or 180 Kg of evenly distributed weight. There are two drainage channels built into the frame. These channels help draining water outside through the drain tubes. BAK includes a weather-stripping tape with the tonneau cover. The weather stripping is pretty easy to apply and gives a good seal against moisture. If your truck has a drop-in bed liner you might not need the weather stripping. The MX4 also has two integrated prop rods. These prop rods hold the cover up-against the cab when it’s flipped up or in fully open position. You can drive your truck at highway speed by locking the prop rods correctly, while the cover is in fully open position. New improved cab bumpers are also included to protect the cab from scratches. The triple-fin tailgate seal is also a notable feature for which you are capable to close the tonneau cover whether your tailgate is open or closed. There is no integrated lock for the cover, it locks with the tailgate. Which also gives you the disadvantage of not being able to open or flip it without unlocking the tailgate.

Disadvantage

All the good products can also have some small disadvantages and BAKFlip MX4 is one of those good products. There is a small issue of drainage channels built into the frame. These channels are open at the tailgate end, so if you drive at high speed during rain a small amount of water may get inside because of the wind. Adding some caulk (or, anything that will hold the water) at that side can easily solve the problem.

The mentioned disadvantage is also a rare thing to happen and it’s solvable in a minute. And the cover locking with the tailgate is your decision to choose it as a feature or downfall.
